Stand beside her, and guide her through the night with a light from above

Given the moral and spiritual degeneration of the USA over the last century (like that of the UK), I am reminded of the following quote, incorrectly attributed to the 19th century French political philosopher and historian Alexis de Tocqueville.

But true, nevertheless, I think.

"I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbours and her ample rivers - and it was not there...in her fertile fields and boundless forests and it was not there...in her rich mines and her vast world commerce - and it was not there...in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution - and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great."

As Solomon said in Proverbs 14:34, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."

A lesson for Britain, I believe.

alanorei: Spot-on! "The fear of The LORD is the beginning of wisdom."

Note on last night's elections: not the landslide we were hoping for, but the brakes have definitely been applied to the Obama regime. Arise, Rand Paul!

Thanks, Potgieter

I certainly trust that you can build on what's been achieved.
