French state website set up to spark national identity debate is hijacked by anti-immigrationists

Sorry to merely link to a story on the Daily Mail website, but this one is too good to miss!! To quote: A French government website set up to spark a 'Great Debate' on national identity has been flooded with comments suggesting immigrants should 'go home'.
France has become an African colony in a way which cannot be reversed,'

'Before France had colonies, now it's been colonised itself.'

'Nobody in France asked to be invaded by strangers';

'Being French is to be born in France to two French parents';

'Immigrants who want to impose their lifestyles on us should go home.'

Allons enfants de la Patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie,
L'étendard sanglant est levé
Update: I see that the Mail have edited the article and that what they had previously termed "anti-immigrationists" (sic) are now just called "Racists" (of course when things don't go your way, grasp for the safe word) I also note that the craven Mail have not allowed any comments through, Oh gee I wonder why?!!

The UK would never be so foolish as to allow its citizens a platform to speak their minds.

One day, they will but not in my lifetime...

let's have the third( or fourth?) stanza :
"quoi des phalanges mercenaires
terrasseraient nos fiers
guerriers?
quoi des cohortes étrangères
feraient la loi dans nos
foyers?"

It is not surprising that these lines are regularly "forgotten" when the national anthem is sung....
Honestly, I don't mind much, I never believed that France was born in 1789!

Quite right Zazie and indeed the preceding lines which, as I recall, are:
Quoi ! des cohortes étrangères
Feraient la loi dans nos foyers !

approximate translation:
What! Foreign cohorts
Would make law in our homes!

The last sentence is priceless

Intellectuals and philosophers have also been among those saying the debate encourages xenophobia and racism.

Says it all really. The great unwashed should keep their noses out of important debates as they just don't see the bigger picture.

The truth is spoken:
Being French is to be born in France to two French parents
