The voice of the British Resistance

So what's the point? I fail to see how this helps the nationalist cause at all. I did not look at ever detail, but the whole thing looked pretty pointless.

It just looked like mindless "entertainment," the sort of anesthesia that causes people to not pay attention to what is happening around them. So I repeat, what's the point?

The point is that much of the conservative movement in the U.S. was energized and enlarged by conservative talk radio. It's an enormous force which was needed as an alternative to the entirely socialist mainstream media such as the major TV stations and newspapers.

@ Lucinda
Did you find something comparable to American talk radio on this site? Perhaps I did not dig deep enough, but I did not see it. Where was it?

Dear Dr.D
I admit this weeks show was more entertainment, there was little content to put out this week. We at VBR are a platform for you to speak out we cannot produce every bit of content. We are also there to try and connect with the younger people of Britain in a hope they will step forward and take up the cause. So please this is the time for you to do something for nationalism not keep asking for it to do something for you.
BTW Thank you very much Sarah for the link.

@Dr. D: my comment was a response to your "so what's the point?". My point was that in an environment where the left has control of all the mainstream media, we conservatives must develop alternative media outlets. In the U.S. it began with a.m. radio, which was considered negligible until conservative talkers made it into a real cultural force, going on from there to establish Fox News and other media. In England, it could well start with the internet and grow from there. The point is, conservatives must get hold of the cultural debate somehow. Conservative media merely reflects what the majority of the public really think, but they have been browbeaten by the elites who control the mainstream media outlets.

I rather imagine that you will not agree with what I am about to say, but I think it is important to say anyway.

One of the major weaknesses of modern Western society, and hence of the nationalist cause, is a lack of serious thought. The constant indulgence in fantasy, escapism, living only for the moment, without any thought at all for where we have come from or where we are going, is the reason that people have no sense of connection to their own history, culture, and nation. It is the perpetuation of childhood right on long past the point of physical maturity, and the deliberate postponement of emotional and psychological maturity.

Why would you ever expect people like this to rally to the nationalist cause? They are too busy playing. They will not interrupt their fun, to be bothered with what happens to the nation. That is tomorrow, and for them, tomorrow never comes. Many of them will not make it through tonight. They live in this moment only, and in their own minds, there is no future, so they surely have no future.

If you wish to persuade people that there is a serious problem facing the nation, and that serious action is required to deal with it, you need to have something serious to say to it. Mental anesthesia is not helpful at all, but rather is counterproductive. You need to talk of the future, of our future which includes their future, and you need to make them aware of the consequences of the actions that they take or fail to take. Life is not lived just in the moment, but rather extends from the past through the present and on into the future.

You say that it is time for me to do something for nationalism. I will. When I have something constructive to say, I will write it as well as I possibly can, and when I have nothing to say, I will remain silent. May I recommend the same to you?

Oh Doc that's a bit harsh, so basically if we haven't got a serious, hard hitting comment on the situation we should just shut up.

Thanks for the advice but I think we will continue to try and reach some people who may not have found your writings and to point them to the more serious stuff and hopefully entertain the troops while we are at it.

You seem to have missed my point about anesthesia. Let me pass along a quote from Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev, something that just happened to be posted at the Anchoress blog yesterday:

The lack of taste for solitude and silence is one of the most common illnesses of the modern person. Many are even scared of remaining in stillness, being alone or having free time: they feel more comfortable being constantly occupied; they need words, impressions; they always hasten in order to have the illusion of an abundant and saturated life. But life in God begins when words and thoughts fall silent, when worldly cares are forgotten, and when a place within the human soul is freed to be filled by Him.
