Multiculturalism Hits The Wall

Sadly I fear the following article may be a tad optimistic. I doubt our leaders are anywhere near giving up their totalitarian dreams to achieve which Multiculturalism is so vital. However, it is an excellent read and the author makes some very valuable and valid points, which may be very useful to us in the struggle ahead.

Multiculturalism Hits The Wall

By J.R. Dunn

As year ten of the long war looms, the "multicultural" paradigm for defense against terrorism has slammed into a brick wall.

Recent developments reveal a policy in terminal disarray. The public revolt against the TSA, the ridiculous and humiliating Ghailani verdict, the still-simmering Financial District victory mosque controversy, and even the unmasking of the false Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansour in Afghanistan have highlighted the absurdity of attempting to meld the "multicultural" worldview with any serious effort against jihadi terrorism. And yet, government officials directly responsible for the defense of the country, from Obama, Holder, and Napolitano on down, insist on maintaining the "multicultural" paradigm despite undeniable evidence of its failure.

Multiculturalism has effectively controlled American security policy as regards terrorism from the very beginning. Islam, we were assured by no less a figure than George W. Bush, was "a religion of peace." Critical resources were invested in curtailing any "backlash" against American Muslims by the evil-minded white Christian majority. Organizations of dubious provenance, such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), were appointed official representatives of American Muslims.

What did these attempts to bend over backward under the prompting of an abstract academic intellectual construct accomplish? Absolutely nothing. Bush was excoriated both here and overseas by the very people he was working to protect. The great anti-Muslim backlash never happened (as Jonathan Tobin reminds us). The advocacy groups have all been revealed as fronts for Hamas. Few policies, official or unofficial, have such a pristine record of failure. Few have hung on more tenaciously.

Multiculturalism is the most recent, and perhaps the final, expression of the late 20th-century left-wing ascendancy. It is a completely synthetic doctrine, formulated without reference to any perceptible element of the quotidian world. Although derived in format and rhetoric from the civil rights movement, it has no relationship with the ideas or hopes expressed by King, Abernathy, Rustin, or any other legitimate civil rights leader. While the civil rights movement was founded in opposition to the odious practice of legal racial segregation, multiculturalism had no such concrete agenda. It was based almost completely on abstract academic theories derived in equal part from black racial extremism and Marxism, purporting to define the relationship between the dominant "white" race and all other races.

According to multicultural theory, the "white" race (never further defined) forms a privileged oppressor class, forever and completely at odds with members of other races. The relationship between races is presented only in terms of power, in which the oppressed races became in effect a proletariat awaiting liberation through revolutionary activity. Under these terms, every action taken by the white oppressors is illegitimate, while those taken by the "subaltern" races are justified, no matter what their evident nature and intent. As a global theory, multiculturalism possesses universal applicability under all circumstances. Every aspect of racial and ethnic relations must be seen through the multicultural lens.

It would be difficult to find a theory to beat multiculturalism for sheer vacuity. It ignores the fact that numerous groups among the "oppressor" race, such as the Irish and Jews, have been historical victims, while the "oppressed" races have often victimized in their turn when they have occupied the top slot. (Arab treatment of sub-Saharan Africans marks only one instance.) For these reasons among others, multiculturalism gained no greater a foothold with the American public than its political models, socialism and Marxism. Although the left attempted throughout the late '80s and '90s to force multiculturalism on the country through its activist PC component, the effort went nowhere. Americans as a whole rejected the doctrine as yet another bizarre fixation of the intellectual class.

There were two exceptions -- the academy, whence multiculturalism arose, and the government bureaucracy. On campus, multiculturalism remained one of the weird things that academics believe. In the bureaucracy, it became another expression of bureaucratic stupidity and intransigence, which did not prevent it from having an impact, limited but malignant, on the country as a whole.

That was the status quo in September 2001. After 9/11, the response of the country's intellectual leadership was straightforward: to react exactly as set forth by multicultural doctrine. The U.S., as a white European oppressor state, was obviously at fault. The Islamist jihadis, all members of an oppressed subaltern race, were victims, no matter what appearances might otherwise suggest. The belief system was up and running; all it needed was factoids to be plugged in.

All the same, the response of the left was muted in the immediate wake of the attacks. Only a handful of left-wingers spoke up in their accustomed manner, to scuttle back into the shade and damp when public agreement was not forthcoming. The most notorious of these comments was Michael Moore's posting characterizing the jihadis as "minutemen ... and they will win." A near match came from a nameless, forgotten California pol who asked, "America -- what have you done?"

An angry and disdainful public response momentarily shut down such sentiments. But these comments did speak for tens of thousands of silent true believers. The atrocity was explicable in familiar multicultural terms -- it was "whitey" (America) that was actually to blame for the attack, while the jihadis, far from being murderous thugs, were in truth romantic rebels, so many adorable Ches gazing off into the radiant multicultural future. The left kept its counsel and waited.

The Hidden Genocide Continues

Mrs Marthie Erasmus, 63, killed with a sledgehammer

On the same day as the Potgier family were killed in Lindsay,(see below) Thursday December 2nd, another farm murder occurred in Koster, the centre of South Africa's maze production, situated in the North West Province, a group of armed black males attacked an Afrikaans farm couple on the farm Hartbeesfontein, in the Moedwil district of Koster. Mrs Marthie Erasmus, 63, was tied up on her bed and then the gang bludgeoned the defenceless woman to death with a 16 pound sledgehammer - for no apparent reason.

Husband Chris Erasmus, also 63, was tied to his chair and brutally beaten about the face and eyes. However he survived the attack and managed to free himself after the attackers fled.

News Report

Update on the Potgieter family murder

There are varying reports as to how 40 year old Attie Potgieger died, initial reports stated he was attacked with a machete however, it now appears he may have been shot. All reports confirm however that his wife Wilna and the couple's three year old daughter Willemein , pictured above at a slightly earlier age, were dispatched, execution style, with bullets to the back of the head. It chills the blood to imagine what sort of mind can murder a three year old child in such a manner.

Also chilling is the note left behind by the Potieger family's killers which simply stated “We have killed them. We are coming back”.

Mike Smith has written a powerful article about this murder at South Africa Sucks

Farm murderers leave chilling note

By Mike Smith

3rd of December 2010

It was with shock and a lump in my throat that I read the report on the farm murder of the Potgieter family of the Freestate as posted by Knorrig. What sick bastards can execute a three year old girl like that? And then the people come on here and say, “You should not hate”…

Attie Potgieter, his wife Wilna and their three year old daughter Willemien were shot execution style by black savages that left a chilling note, “We have killed them. We are coming back”.

First point.

I want to know from the experts who record these farm murders exactly how it will be recorded. Three white people have been killed on a farm. Is that THREE farm murders or ONE seeing that only one “Farmer” was killed. The reason I ask is because there are some people who dispute the figure of 3700 white farmers killed since 1994.

Second point.

The report says: “Three farm workers were arrested on Thursday. Later, in townships in the area, three more suspects were arrested… the suspects arrested in the townships had paid the farm workers R500 each for information about the family’s movements.”

And if we look at what they stole: “Credit cards covered in blood as well as a 9mm firearm, which was also covered in blood, were found in a shack near Lindley. Another firearm was found on the scene.“

Is this Kaffir bookkeeping or what? They pay out R1500 to steal a 9mm that they could have picked up for R150 in the township. They drop a fire-arm at the scene.

Third point.

The report says: “Potgieter was believed to have withdrawn R7 000 from the bank on Wednesday afternoon to pay salaries.”

No mention in the report that this money was stolen. Only some credit cards…

Fourth Point.

Which delusional white farmer in this day and age, after so many farm murders still employs blacks? Were the Potgieters also some of those whites who believe that “Our Blacks” are OK. They are not like “The other Blacks”? Well this case has proved again that three of these farm workers worked together with the killers. Now, none of the 30 odd farm workers have a job anymore. Brilliant Black thinking to kill a white farmer and his family.

Fifth Point.

The report says: “In the house, a plate of food was still in the microwave…”

So these bastards were obviously not hungry or poor when they committed these murders. They had R1500 to pay out as bribes for information of the whereabouts of the farmer. Where did they get that money? Who funded them? It is clear to me that this was as usual no ordinary crime. This is terrorism and the continuation of the ANC’s terrorist campaign which they call an “Armed struggle” against innocent civilians.

A three year old little white Girl shot dead like a dog by black scum…But I am not allowed to hate…I am told that this is not racial hatred towards whites, this is “just ordinary crime”…

Frank Ellis's review of "Germany Abolishes itself: How we are Putting Our Country at Risk" by Thilo Sarrazin

Thilo Sarrazin

Earlier this week I posted Dr. Frank Ellis's response to David Goodhart’s Review of Thilo Sarrazin’s Deutschland schafft sich ab: Wie wir unser Land aufs Spiel setzen (Germany Abolishes itself: How we are Putting Our Country at Risk. I now have the honour of publishing Frank Ellis's own review of Sarrazin's controversial and ground breaking book.

The following is an abridged version of Dr. Ellis's review, those wishing to read the full, in dept, review (which I enthusiastically recommend) can do so by clicking here.

Concerns over the magnitude and speed of population growth, as well as the racial and cultural changes brought about by mass immigration are nothing new. What is new is the manner in which the political establishments of virtually all Western states have abandoned, with complete disregard for the legitimate fears and well being of their own indigenous populations, any form of immigration controls. In the USA and Western Europe, a very large proportion of the political class have tried to justify this mass influx of foreigners with the claim that we need the labour, skilled or otherwise; that the mass movement of people is a necessary part of a globalised economy; that in some vague, sentimental way the prosperous nations of the north have an obligation to throw open their doors to the surplus populations of the Third World. Until quite recently, this mass movement of the unemployed and unemployable from the slums of the Middle East, Africa and the Indian sub-continent, with a fair proportion of actual and would-be terrorists among them, used to be justified by the obviously preposterous claim that the white indigenous populations of northern Europe would somehow benefit from the influx of millions of foreigners into their countries. Indeed, we were told – though not so much these days – that immigrants were bearers of the remarkable gift of diversity; that their presence enriched us.

In common with other Western states, Germany has suffered from the combination of a duplicitous and negligent political class, one which has relentlessly harried its citizens to accept what they instinctively feel and know to be wrong, and from waves of immigrants who, the evidence quite clearly shows, have no intention of integrating. Third World immigrants are attracted to Germany not by abstract concepts of free speech, the rule of law, liberal democracy and personal freedom but by the higher standard of living they can enjoy at the expense of the German taxpayer. In part because of the Nazi period, the pressure on Germans to conform to the United Nations-sponsored ideology of multiculturalism has been immense, much worse than anything we have experienced in the United Kingdom. History matters: the Nazi past will remain an integral part of Germany’s history but no other nation has submitted itself to such soul-searching and public flagellation in order to face up to its past and to make amends. However, one of the downsides has been to treat any assertion of national German pride as a manifestation of Neo-Nazi tendencies, as something hideously offensive and shameful when it is, in fact, the normal, emotional and rational pride in, and commitment to, one’s country of origin, to one’s Vaterland, to use that beautifully evocative German word.

It is this specifically German historical, social and political background that makes the publication of Thilo Sarrazin’s book in Germany so remarkable, and all the more remarkable for its having been written by one of Germany’s top technocrats, a person at the very heart of the German administrative establishment, a person, who whatever his misgivings about the state of Germany, I, for one, would have expected to remain silent. Clearly, Herr Sarrazin has had enough. He instinctively grasps the truth of Solzhenitysn’s eleventh commandment: thou shall not live by the Lie. There is something about Sarrazin that bears the stamp of Martin Luther, Pastor Martin Niemöller and the White Rose students who defied the Nazis in Munich. Moral courage is always inspirational and life-enhancing. Indeed, the fact that Sarrazin’s book has become a best seller in Germany and attracted enormous support for its author may well have prompted Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, publicly to admit (October 2010) that multiculturalism had utterly failed in Germany. Indeed, it has: and not just in Germany.

Before turning to the substance of Thilo Sarrazin’s book I want to deal with the translation of the German title. The main German title of the book has in some quarters been translated into English as Germany is Abolishing itself or Germany is Doing away with itself. The German verb abschaffen can indeed be translated as to abolish or to get rid of something but these translations do not, in my opinion, do justice to the scope, depth and above all the implications of the book’s themes which will become clear below. I suggest, therefore, that a better translation of the main title, one that better reflects the impending German (and Western) catastrophe, would be Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion (or even Germany Commits Suicide or Germany’s Death Wish).

Sarrazin is well aware that the title of his book will inevitably cause some readers to ask, in all seriousness, whether his central thesis – that Germany is heading towards self-inflicted oblivion – is an accurate reflection of what is happening. The ensuing avalanche of evidence and professional analyses presented by the author left me in no doubt that the suicide scenario is fundamentally accurate. Sarrazin underlines the rather obvious but easily forgotten point that Germany is Germany ‘by virtue of its inhabitants and their living intellectual as well as their cultural traditions. Without the people it would merely be a geographical term’.1 The same is true of England, Denmark, France and Russia. As befits a highly trained and experienced member of the German technocracy, Sarrazin presents a thoroughly well researched set of arguments. Each chapter addresses some aspect of the immigrant problem – poverty, fertility, declining mean IQ and educational standards, spiralling welfare payments, left-wing and intellectual cowardice and the relentless Islamification of Germany - providing the reader with a series of brilliantly written mini-monographs. He examines the various socio-economic, intellectual and demographic trends which are inextricably linked with one another and which lead inexorably to his synthesis and the work’s devastating conclusions. Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion is a masterly display of erudition and logical exposition; yet additional cause to arouse and nourish the hatred of the lazy and sentimental.

To begin with, Germans, especially high-IQ women, are not having enough children and, as a consequence, the population of indigenous Germans – Sarrazin uses autochthonous instead of indigenous – is dropping below replacement rate. Mean IQ is falling. If this trend continues, immigrants will emerge as the dominant population with serious consequences for the German economy and the country currently known as Germany. Sarrazin notes that it has not been possible to talk about this in Germany for decades. As always the left-wing media would denounce any person expressing these fears as a Nazi, racist and xenophobic. Enormous damage has been inflicted on Germany because of this neo-Marxist imposed silence.

Sarrazin destroys this silence. In Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion he effectively highlights the dangers posed by uncontrolled, mass immigration and the accompanying mendacious and propagandistic view that mass immigration is a benefit. Politicians know that the slogan – ‘diversity is our strength’ – is a lie, and, as Sarrazin notes, these major changes and shifts in population are ‘seldom bloodless’2. Moreover, he argues, correctly, that now that the major living spaces of the world, once under-populated, are occupied uncontrolled migration is no longer possible. He continues: ‘[…] the natural population decrease in one country or group of countries may not serve as the basis morally and politically to justify immigration or seizure of land. The territorial principle is an inviolable component of state sovereignty and respect for it serves to maintain peace’.3

One of the key problems associated with an ageing population and which is related to the influx of immigrants, is the rising cost of healthcare and this can only be financed by increasing the number of gainfully employed. Since this is highly unlikely one consequence will be that ‘future allocation and financial problems cannot be solved at the level of the national economy by more growth but only by redistribution’.4 This is a very serious conclusion and, if accurate, an alarming one for individual freedom, since it means that growth will be finite or only very slow and that economic measures more appropriate for a full-blown socialist economy will be introduced. In fact, it may be the most important finding in the book and one about which governments all over Western Europe will want to remain tight-lipped.

Mass immigration from Third World states, primarily Turkey, the Middle East and Africa will not solve Germany’s problems. Germany’s economic future lies in its human and above all intellectual capital. These are the keys to the creation of wealth, and are firmly in line with the data and conclusions of Richard Lynn: see, for example, Dysgenics: Genetic Deterioration in Modern Populations (1996); Eugenics: A Reassessment (2001); Race Differences in Intelligence: An Evolutionary Analysis (2006); and The Global Bell Curve: Race, IQ, and Inequality Worldwide (2008); and the two studies which Lynn co-authored with Tatu Vanhanen: IQ and the Wealth of Nations (2002); and IQ and Global Inequality (2006). One compelling finding, one of many revealed in Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion, derives from the work of German researcher, Heiner Rindermann, who studied the findings of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). According to Sarrazin, Rindermann demonstrated that:

[…] data of all three competences from PISA 2000 and 2003 - reading, mathematics and natural sciences – correlated not only extremely highly with one another but also with measured intelligence. Rindermann posed the question whether the PISA tests were measuring not merely intelligence. Furthermore he compared the OECD-wide PISA results with the data compiled by Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen of the mean IQs of the corresponding states and likewise established a high correlation: and so Pandora’s box was opened.5

Sarrazin argues that the MINT disciplines (Mathematics, Information Technology, Natural sciences and Technology) are the drivers of wealth creation. There is now less work for those who traditionally earned a living by manual labour. We see the same problem in the UK. Sarrazin also provides compelling support for the pioneering work of Charles Murray and Richard J. Herrnstein (see The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life, 1994). Indeed, he shares the conclusions of Murray and Herrnstein that there is a growing gap between the intellectually talented and the less intellectually able.6 In remarks that will only offend German xenophile-fanatics, Sarrazin asserts that: ‘The three immigrant groups with the greatest lack of education and the highest social costs are also those who are reproducing themselves the most’.7

Regardless whether it exists among indigenous or immigrant populations, the question of poverty – relative or absolute - is critical. Can people really said to be poor in the welfare states of the West? Despite his many objections to out-of-control welfare statism raised in Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion, Sarrazin insists that the weak and helpless, those who cannot feed themselves and their progeny ‘should and must be helped’8; that the provision of shelter, clothing and food should be guaranteed. Let me play Devil’s advocate. What happens when the numbers rise so that the means to clothe and feed these poor and wretched can no longer be found? If the welfare net is too generous it subsidises the procreation of the less intelligent. The poor and lazy, encouraged by unscrupulous politicians who exploit alleged poverty to secure votes and a class of poverty bureaucrats who derive a living from dispensing other people’s money to the underclass are engaging in a massive game of blackmail. Confronted with the analyses of people like Sarrazin (and many before him), the poor and feckless, aided and abetted by politicians and poverty bureaucrats, will deploy what they regard as their nuclear option: will you, they ask, allow the poor and needy to starve to death? Now it is completely evasive to say in response that this would never happen; that the question’s premise is too extreme; that things would never get that bad. That merely concedes the principle, albeit implicitly, that the poor and needy, at home and abroad, however we define them, can lay a claim on the public purse.

There are two responses that can be offered. First, the question whether the poor and needy should be allowed to die is misleading: the question removes the burden of survival from the feckless and it imposes it on the responsible: why are the poor and needy poor and needy? Why should the sexually and demographically responsible and the economically prudent even have to consider an answer to the question, let alone provide material resources? One way to deal with the poor and unemployable would be to provide services and food in government centres under strict supervision (food stamps only and absolutely no, or very little, money). Second, an honest answer is that human beings who engage in reckless and unsustainable personal breeding experiments, who use their breeding habits as a way of extorting money, goods and services from others are indeed free to suffer the consequences. I do not kill them or their progeny by not agreeing to permit a transfer of my wealth, goods and services: those responsible are the incompetent and reckless parents who do not grasp or do not care that copulation is only the start of parenthood. That is the honest, morally wholesome and rational answer when targeted by poverty hustler-bureaucrats and politicians using moral blackmail. The same arguments also apply to the demented do-goodery of multimillionaire celebrities, models and pop stars who want other people’s money and other people’s taxes to subsidise the reckless and destructive breeding of the Third World.

Another problem is also evident. Immigrants who live in parallel societies courtesy of German and European taxpayers and who have no intention whatsoever of integrating cannot be considered to be my ‘fellow citizens’. They are aliens among us. Do they meet the conditions laid down by Sarrazin for tax-payer charity when they become poor and needy? Furthermore, Sarrazin’s justification for welfare provision inside Germany will be used – is being used - as the moral basis for the massive transfer of German and European wealth to the Third World. According to xenophiles the starving and diseased in Somalia or Haiti – or wherever the latest Third World disaster happens to be - are our fellow citizens of the world and thus entitled to our money and support.

In Germany, as Sarrazin points out, the problem of poverty, whether it affects indigenous Germans or immigrants, is emotionally driven not analytically (as in other Western states). Sarrazin argues: ‘The poverty risk threshold in Germany today is higher than the average net income of Germans at the high point of the economic miracle at the start of the sixties in the previous century’.9 Sarrazin tested his theories on the largesse of the German welfare system. He was famously able to demonstrate – for which he shall never be forgiven – that it is possible to eat well and healthily on the money provided by the German welfare system (Sarrazin and his wife put the feeding plan to the test and had no problems). As a consequence of his experiment the results of which were publicly discussed he received hundreds of hate emails. During the course of making a television programme based on Sarrazin’s experiment, one of the cameramen of a television station told Sarrazin that he had been instructed not to film the inside of apartments of welfare recipients because they were full of electronic gadgets. Sarrazin also reports that recipients of welfare payments have above average provision of electronic media.10 It is the same in the United Kingdom: rows of houses in estates full of the unemployable, all sporting satellite dishes. Sarrazin identifies three reasons why so much emotion is aroused by the recipients of welfare and the bureaucrats and lawyers who work in the field when the provision of welfare is challenged. First, the recipients have a vested interest in the system’s being continued. Second, politicians and the hordes of researchers and media activists have a vested interest in the system: without it they are out of work. Third, if it is possible to live adequately on the money provided but those who receive this money do not live adequately then the problem of poverty can only be a behavioural problem not some existential catastrophe. It is the last point that triggers the rage and aggression.

Very few Turks who came to Germany as workers ever returned home. Their families then joined them from Turkey. This has created a huge, hostile underclass. The whole guest worker programme was, Sarrazin insists, ‘a gigantic error’.11 Muslims arriving in European states bring many problems. Among them are: (i). below average integration in the employment market; (ii). above average dependence on welfare and handouts; (iii).above average fertility; (iv).spatial segregation with a tendency to create parallel societies; (v).above average religious adherence with an attraction to fundamentalist Islam; (vi).above average criminality (street crime) and participation in terrorism.12

Some truly horrendous consequences arising from Germany’s generous welfare provision are cited in this book. One observer describes the chaos of life in an immigrant Turkish family: ‘And the flat screen television is always on, always’.13 It seems that one of the classic features of the underclass, be they black, white or Islamic immigrants in Germany is an addiction to television. It is almost as if television, with its relentless diet of soap operas and celebrity trash shows, is deliberately designed to cater overwhelmingly to the underclass of all races in all countries. Television is the narcotic of first choice for the international underclass. Then there is the example of some small German town where the population of 300 Turks is derived from just two families: one of them boasts that ‘we don’t need the Germans’.14 Statistics for the Berlin district of Neukölln are staggering. The district has about 305,000 inhabitants of whom 120,000 are of immigrant background. It is estimated that the total of illegals is 20,000 – 30,000 out of a total illegal population of 150,000-200,000 in Berlin.15 There are many such examples of Neukölln in Germany where immigrants are rapidly displacing the indigenous population. Sarrazin’s devastating point that - ‘A German going through these districts would feel like a foreigner in his own country’16 – would secure a lengthy standing ovation were it addressed to an indigenous British audience in some of our major cities. Crimes in Germany involving immigrants are often suppressed by the mainstream media for the very obvious reason that reporting these crimes would show that the perpetrators are immigrants. We have the same problem in the United Kingdom concerning the prevalence of gun and knife crime in our cities which is essentially a black problem. Regarding the suppression of the truth or just ignoring it (another form of censorship), Sarrazin asks: ‘Who is actually helped when facts in the public domain are suppressed, facts which those who are affected do not deny? Certainly neither the truth nor clear analysis or integration’.17

Sarrazin concludes his book with two scenarios: nightmare and salvation. In the nightmare scenario he looks ahead to the end of the twenty-first century. He sees a Germany that by century’s end is no longer German. Rampant welfare spending and the failure to control Third World immigration have led to Germany’s being effectively turned into a Muslim state. The German-language requirement for immigrants is abolished – it is deemed to be a manifestation of latent fascism and cultural superiority – and Germany’s famous churches, among them Cologne Cathedral, are converted into mosques. There are demands for a new German flag, one with a black background, a red crescent and a gold star.

Salvation, if it is not already too late, stems from the growing support for populist right-wing parties all across Europe. Europe’s voters are well aware that their living standards had dropped and that the Schengen agreement left Europe wide open to illegal immigrants. Immigration controls are tightened, educational standards raised and the number of children born to high-IQ women starts to rise. In those parts of German cities long known for housing immigrants women in headscarves were far less visible. Immigration restrictions, the reduction in the number of migrants seeking a life on welfare handouts and the continual moving out of the economically successful was clearly having an effect. The migrant quarters in the big cities were shrinking and far lass Turkish and Arabic were heard on the streets. Germany has been brought back from the brink.

What makes Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion so valuable to any thinking German patriot who has had to endure politically correct lying over so many decades on anything to do with immigration and race is Sarrazin’s fearless, rational honesty. Germans reading Germany Consigns itself to Oblivion must have experienced something similar to that experienced by a Russian reading a samizdat version of Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago during the Cold War: an exhilarating sense of moral and intellectual liberation which only the honest search for, and confrontation with, truth can deliver. I salute Herr Sarrazin for his moral courage and intellectual acumen: and God bless his great nation in the struggle to save itself from oblivion. Nun aber los!

England's Humiliation - the video

It is hardly surprising that England was so roundly defeated in its bit to host the FIFA World Cup 2018. The judges obviously became totally confused by the official England bid presentation video and couldn't work out what country it was for. They could certainly be forgiven for thinking it was the Brazil entry, or maybe even Mozambique.

Readers who wish to view the streaming pile of multicultural effluent will have to do so by clicking here and viewing it at YouTube, as I refuse to embed the garbage at my blog.

I do not believe that bribes, corruption or the Russian mafia played any part in the decision, why on earth would FIFA wish to award the World Cup to a country so obviously deeply ashamed of its own culture it sought to smother it beneath every other culture?.

The bid was shameful, embarrassing and totally deserved the humiliation it received.

Six held after farm family murder

Six people have been arrested and are being questioned over the brutal murder of a Lindley family.

Attie Potgieter, his wife Wilma and their three year old daughter Willemien were found murdered on their farm on Thursday morning. The South African farmer, in his 40s, had been attacked with a panga (machete), while his wife and infant daughter were shot.

Three of the suspects were arrested on the farm, while other three were picked up in the town of Lindley, Makhele said.

Most of the suspects are in their early twenties.

The commercial farming body, Free State Agriculture has condemned the killings with Free State Agriculture chief executive, Henk Vermeulen calling it senseless murder.

Lindley is a small town situated on the banks of the Vals River in the eastern Free State which was established by an American Presbyterian missionary named Daniel Lindley, who was the first ordained minister to the Voortrekkers in Natal.

The settlement of Lindley was laid out in 1875 on the farm Brandhoek and was proclaimed a town in 1878.

The Final Solution of the European Question?

To imagine that the economic life of a vast area comprising many different people can be directed or planned by democratic procedure betrays a complete lack of awareness of the problems such planning would raise. Planning on an international scale, even more than is true on a national scale, cannot be anything but a naked rule of force, an imposition by a small group on all the rest of that sort of standard and employment which the planners think suitable for the rest.

Bewitched by the Idea of Europe and ignoring all warnings of future dangers, Europe’s administrators march towards the edge of the pit, which, they promise, will be the foundation of a new European age, but is more likely to be the mass grave for all their preposterous Euro-vanities and tricks. What madness then compels the UK to follow in the wake of this Totentanz?

On economic grounds alone the case against the UK’s joining the United States of Europe (USE) is powerful and cogent. Add cultural-historical and political factors as well, and the case against is overwhelming, especially for England. One of the oldest nation states in existence, England’s success as a nation, her contribution to the world, is out of all proportion to her size. Her achievements are the bedrock of the civilized Western world: fundamental discoveries in science; one of the world’s great literatures; the founder of parliamentary democracy, Common Law and the great practitioner of economic liberalism. The refusal to worship der Staat has created a country where individual freedoms are respected and venerated. England, as the author of Paradise Lost reminds us, is ‘a nation not slow and dull, but of a quick, ingenious, and piercing spirit, acute to invent, subtle and sinewy to discourse, not beneath the reach of any point the highest that human capacity can soar to.’ Those who would have England join the USE offer no convincing reasons why Englishmen should abandon their independence when it has served them and the rest of the world so well. And in the Dis-united Kingdom England will once again have need of her ancient strengths and virtues.

The idea that England could not survive outside of the European Union is the reaction of the defeatist. In a global economy there is no reason why England should have to stay in the European Union. Global trade means that we will trade with any country. We already do. England does not have to join a currency union to trade with Japan or America or South Africa. Why, then, will it be necessary to stay in the European Union if we wish to continue to trade with Germany and France? France and Germany are not going to cease to trade with us because we are no longer in the European Union (though the possibility of trade sanctions cannot be excluded as part of a wider set of measures to punish us, should we leave. See below). They will want our goods and services; we will continue to want theirs. We are major investors in North America and Asia. London is the financial capital of the world. Global trade is the best guarantor of our economic prosperity, not dreams of super-European autarky.

With the highest rate of home ownership in Europe, Britain’s economy is especially vulnerable to changes in interest rates. Past membership of the exchange-rate mechanism illustrates what would happen, and is likely to happen again, if, prior to our joining Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), sterling must observe ‘the normal fluctuation margins provided for by the exchange-rate mechanism of the European Monetary System, for at least two years, without devaluing against the currency of any other Member State’ ([emphasis added] Article 109j, TITLE II, Treaty on European Union).

For Gordon Brown, a chancellor, who favours Britain’s adopting the euro the high level of home ownership in Britain poses a real challenge. Home owners who will be hit by high interest rates are not likely to vote for joining the common currency in any referendum. There is also evidence that the present chancellor is using progressive increases in stamp duty as a way of killing off the house-owning aspirations of the British, so as to make the European-wide interest rate less of a problem, were Britain to join EMU. To this can be added, in due course, the application of European rates of Value-Added Tax (VAT at 20-22%) to the British housing market, currently zero-rated, which without any increases in stamp duty will finish off the house-owning aspirations of all but the very wealthy. One wonders: was the belief that Britain would sign up for EMU, with all the implications for the housing market, a factor in the decisions of the former building societies to abandon their mutual status and become banks?

The high level of home ownership in Britain also says something about the psychology of Britain. The idea that an Englishman’s home is his castle stands in the way of state control and interference. It was, after all, the great socialist dream that privately-owned housing would give way to hideous blocks of state-owned flats for the masses. Owning one’s home confers independence from the state and its patronage. It is one of the foundations of our freedoms.

During the first 5 to 10 years of the euro’s existence enormous and determined efforts will be made by the French, Germans and the European Central Bank (ECB) to convince people in and out of the euro-zone that it is working. EU expertise in fudging, distorting, lying, propagandizing, obfuscating and wasting vast sums of taxpayers’ money will be deployed in full. No effort will be spared. This early period of the euro’s existence will have the greatest importance for the UK, since some time after 2002 that is at a time when the euro has been adopted by the majority of the EU, Britain will hold the referendum on whether to abandon sterling. We can take it for granted that the efforts to make the euro work in these early years will be aimed at the undecided nations of which, for the Euro-bureaucracy, Britain is the real prize. Consequently, any decision to enter the euro-zone on the basis of its rigged performance in these early years will give a thoroughly misleading indication of the euro’s real and long-term worth as a currency. In other words, only after we have joined the euro-zone - and there is no longer any requirement to cook the books - will we discover the true operational strengths and shortcomings of the currency. One obvious consequence of this is that we will need to spend a much longer period outside the euro-zone before an accurate assessment can be made. Cooking the books to make it easier for a British chancellor to sell the euro to an undecided British public cannot be maintained indefinitely. So once again, there is much to be said for delay, and the longer the delay, the greater the likelihood that the cracks in the Euro-project (monetary and otherwise) will be revealed, even, perhaps, that the euro-zone will collapse or be discredited beyond redemption.

Also, the longer we remain out of the euro-zone, the weaker the argument for our joining will become. If after some 10 to 20 years of the euro’s being operational our economy is growing at least in line with members of the euro-zone, then the question of joining need hardly arise. Moreover, the fact of our being outside the euro-zone may well serve as a reminder to some of Europe’s more sceptical, but brow-beaten leaders and populations, that there is economic life and prosperity outside of EMU. Our role outside would be analogous to that in the summer of 1940 outside of German-occupied Europe, a reminder that national freedom and sovereignty whether threatened by Messerschmitts or coerced membership of a common-currency zone, are worth fighting for.

From this it follows that, for the Euro-planners, Britain’s membership of the New Europe is absolutely imperative: there must be no safe havens for Europe’s disgruntled investors; no reminders of what the ancient states of Europe have given up; no free-trading economic commandos scourging the follies of the over-regulated, over-controlled, neo-socialist Europe. All must be united in misery and penury.

EMU is a question of power: who does what to whom. Once we join a common currency we cease to be an independent nation. The other fundamental objection to the creation of the United States of Europe is that it will not work, and that in its failing enormous damage will be done to those countries that join. The possibility of armed conflict cannot be ruled out.

Some five years ago I wrote to my Member of Parliament, arguing that were Britain to join EMU, and were we to discover that it did not suit us at all, and we wanted to leave, that Britain could face the possibility of being at war with a Euro-Army. He dismissed me out of hand. In a recent issue of Foreign Affairs, Martin Feldstein has made exactly the same point about military conflict (see ‘EMU and International Conflict’, vol 76, No 6, November/December 1997, pp.60-73). The danger of armed conflict, or at the very least trade sanctions, which could escalate to war, arises from the fact that there is no provision in the Treaty on European Union - the Maastricht Treaty - for a state to leave EMU. For example, Protocol 10 (On the Transition to the Third Stage of Economic and Monetary Union) declares ‘the irreversible character of the Community’s movement to the third stage of economic and monetary union...’ and of the Community’s entering ‘the third stage irrevocably on 1 January 1999’ (emphasis added). Having signed the Treaty on European Union, with no provision for a state to leave constitutionally, the United Kingdom would be in breach of its Treaty obligations, were it to leave EMU unilaterally. In any conflict over our leaving we would be at an immense legal and psychological disadvantage from the very beginning.

It is indeed possible to create the United States of Europe but only at the expense of living under the very heavy and inflexible hand of bureaucracy. Everything will have to be harmonised and standardised. The word Gleichschaltung comes to mind. Once regulations are established they will have to be implemented and their effectiveness monitored. The lust for regulation will reach into every nook and cranny of our lives. Here, too, we should note the very specific way in which the word “regulation” is used in the Maastricht Treaty. A regulation ‘shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all member states.’ (Article 189, Title II). Likewise, a ‘decision shall be binding in its entirety upon those to whom it is addressed.’ (Article 189, Title II). Of course, regulation sounds less threatening than decree or edict. Without strong centralised control and a powerful army of bureaucrats and their flood of rules and regulations, and the corresponding loss of freedom, the United States of Europe cannot exist. Such an artificial creation will not be able to compete with more flexible, less-regulated economies, which is another reason why France and Germany want to force Britain at some stage to sign up to the 1989 Social Charter. None must be allowed to outshine, or to outperform the others. This is socialism, pure and simple. Given the inability of French and German workers to come to terms with their having to do without the generous welfare provisions to which they have become accustomed, and given, moreover, the unwillingness of the French and German governments to act to remove the largely structural causes of high unemployment, then the United States of Europe will fall back into protectionism and tarrifism. At times of crisis there will be pressure to control flows of capital, thereby negating one of the free-market mechanisms by means of which incompetent and profligate governments can be punished. The Maastricht Treaty leaves us in no doubt about that such regressive measures will be taken, if necessary. [The Council] ‘may, acting by a qualified majority on a proposal from the Commission, adopt measures on the movement of capital to or from third countries involving direct investment - including investment in real estate - establishment, the provision of financial services or the admission of securities to capital markets’ (Title II, Provisions Amending the Treaty Establishing the European Economic Community with a View to Establishing the European Union, Chapter 4, Capital and Payments, Article 73c). Article 73f reinforces these savage limitations on the free flows of capital, if capital flows to or from third countries ‘cause, or threaten to cause, serious difficulties for the operation of economic and monetary union.’

We need look no further than what happened in the Soviet bloc to get some idea of what the bureaucratic terror of the United States of Europe forged and run by the Franco-German axis - with its British collaborators - would be like. Granted, it might be without concentration camps, but it would be like living in a Kafka novel. Only coercion and violence held the Soviet Union together; and Yugoslavia as well. Things would be no different at all in the United States of Europe. The collapse of the Soviet empire and Yugoslavia also carries another warning that nationalism cannot be suppressed indefinitely. Age-old hatreds which Tito and Soviet leaders believed they had eliminated were simply made worse. Again, why are the builders of the United States of Europe convinced that the nationalist pressures which blew Yugoslavia to pieces after being suppressed for so long will not do the same to the United States of Europe? And while on the subject of nationalism let us be absolutely clear whose nationalism it was that caused two world wars: it was German nationalism, not British, French, American, Russian or even Italian. Germany’s striving for hegemony in Europe (und morgen die ganze Welt, as the song goes) caused these wars. So the next time we hear Kohl or any of the European bureaucrats issuing dire warnings about the dangers of nationalism, we should just remind ourselves whose nationalism was the real danger. The other lesson from Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union is that the longer these national loyalties are suppressed, the more violent, and virulent they are when they explode.

Monstrous Orwellian fraud as it was - and possibly for that reason - the fourth Soviet Constitution adopted by the Supreme Soviet in 1977, has some uncanny echoes with the Maastricht Treaty. We find the same theoretical waffle about equality, social cohesion and economic progress, the attempt to be all things to all men. All major decisions were taken by the centre but every attempt was made to present them as having come from, and enjoying the support of, the “masses”. In the language of the Soviet Constitution this was known as “democratic centralism”. In the language of the Maastricht Treaty it is called “subsidiarity”. Soviet legislators, unlike the authors of the Maastricht Treaty, have no qualms about using the f-word. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is formed, we are told, on the basis ‘of socialist federalism’ (Article 70). Moreover, and in contrast to the Maastricht Treaty, there is provision for the republics to secede from the union (Article 72). Naturally, as long as they did not try to exercise this right they had nothing to worry about. Curious also is the use in the Soviet Constitution of the word “nation” which has been totally purged from the lexicon of the Maastricht Treaty. In its place we find “Member State”, but never “Nation State”. A Nation State can only go so far in any form of alliance before its leaders and electorate must confront issues of independence and sovereignty. The term Member State is misleading. For it suggests that a psychological transition from Nation State to Member State has taken place, that Germans and Italians no longer see themselves as Germans or Italians, but as Europeans, and thus, as well, that the Member State has moved beyond considerations of old-fashioned, reactionary sovereignty, or more accurately, that objections have been brushed aside or just ignored. Such is the aversion to the “Nation State” that states which are not Member States are referred to as “States”, not “Nation State” (Article 238, Title II). It is as if the authors of the Maastricht Treaty are trying deliberately to erase any association of “nation” and “state” and the very idea, indeed, of a nation with its associations of independence and unique history.

That the Soviet Constitution could bait its enslaved populations with talk of rights of secession, freedom of worship and expression, respect for national cultures and so on was due to the very nature of the totalitarian state and its brutal cynicism. Rights and freedoms could be promulgated in the knowledge that they could be totally disregarded. Mindful of their disgruntled populations, the Euro-bureaucracy has to be more careful and advance their case by stealth, omission and endless euphemisms rather than by reasoned argument.

Some of the most worrying provisions of the Treaty on European Union are those which affect defence and security. In the bitter arguments over monetary matters, the defence implications have not received the same attention, publicly at least. The EU is to have a ‘common foreign and security policy, governed by the provisions of this Title and covering all areas of foreign and security policy (emphasis added). So reads Title V, ‘Provisions on a Common Foreign and Security Policy’, Article J.1, paragraph 1. Had the provisions of Articles J.2 and J.3 of this Title, with their insistence on qualified majority voting and the need to adopt a common position, been binding at the time of the Falklands war, the UK might well have found itself acting in defiance of a common European position. Closer to home, the European factor has forced British governments to rule out a far more aggressive response to Sinn Fein/IRA terrorism. The real problem with defence, however, arises from the provisions of Article J.4 which advocates ‘the eventual framing of a common defence policy, which might in time lead to a common defence.’

A common defence policy for a future United States of Europe based on conventional weapons and deployment is bad enough, one that includes the nuclear factor, as it must do with France’s inclusion, and maybe Britain’s, assumes nightmarish proportions. A unified Euro-military command will include representatives from all the member/nation states, who would have to be consulted on such matters as: the peace-time operational deployment of the nuclear deterrent; target planning and acquisition; and the procedure for any retaliatory response. The non-nuclear states which means all but France, would expect to be treated as equals in all nuclear matters since the use and deployment of such weapons would affect them all. It will be very interesting to see how the French military establishment reacts when their nuclear policies are vetoed by majority voting. And what if the United States of Europe decides, against the wishes of France’s senior officers, to scrap all nuclear weapons? I suggest that the acrimony arising from disputes as to who should be the first head of the ECB will be nothing compared thereto.

Non-nuclear states, which are now participating fully in nuclear-contingency planning and are, in any case, no longer independent sovereign states, cannot maintain a non-nuclear status. As a result, the entire United States of Europe can now be considered a single nuclear power and, crucially, for its 300 million inhabitants, a single nuclear target.

A common European defence policy with a nuclear element, certainly French, possibly British, must bring about a profound and dangerous shift in the nuclear-contingency planning of the Russian Federation. Were Member States, other than France, to take part in nuclear planning and, possibly, even be involved in the authorization and authentication procedures prior to the use of nuclear weapons, then the Russian Federation would be justified in regarding all the states of the USE, not just France, as legitimate nuclear targets. Under the NATO umbrella, non-nuclear members of NATO could argue that since they did not allow the deployment of nuclear weapons on their territory (Norway for example) they were not nuclear targets. While it seems highly unlikely that such niceties would have been respected by the Soviet Union - witness the fate of Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan - the distinction between the nuclear and the non-nuclear states in NATO, as well as the distinction between the non-nuclear states allowing the deployment of nuclear weapons on their territory and those non-nuclear states that did not, were, nevertheless, factors that even a lawless, predatory state such as the former Soviet Union would have had to take into account.

Now, it is extremely difficult to see how any unequivocal guarantees from the French and British defence establishments, such as they will be at this time, to the effect that their respective nuclear deterrents will be strictly subordinated to British and French government control, will in any way mollify or reassure the Russian Federation, since such national government control and veto would render any common defence policy incoherent. Furthermore, by the time the political entity of the USE has been created, the assertions of the British and French “governments” will count for nothing. Traditional areas of decision-making will, by then, have been transferred to, or been taken over by, the USE government. There will, in effect, be no British or French governments. There can, therefore, be no reassurances.

There are two further dangers arising from the creation of a nuclear-armed United States of Europe. In some respects, perhaps, they are the most worrying of all for they violate if not the substance, but certainly the spirit of the 1968 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. In conditions of a common European defence policy prevailing within a United States of Europe, the inclusion of a nuclear-armed France (and maybe the UK) effectively renders all the former non-nuclear states nuclear. The danger here is that if the European states can get away with this sleight of hand, there will be nothing to stop China and the Russian Federation from extending their defence obligations to non-nuclear states, so as to justify further, nuclear proliferation, or maintaining their nuclear forces at current levels. India, already testing nuclear weapons, would then accelerate its own programme. Pakistan would follow suit. And would Japan, amid the rush to acquire nuclear weapons, maintain its non-nuclear stance? Unlikely. The danger is greatest in the Middle East. A nuclear-armed, Pan-Arab state would be a dire threat to the West.

The second danger is this. With a population of 300 million people, large market and influence, the USE will find it difficult to resist the temptations of superpower status. The question here is whether a nuclear arsenal that was suitable for an independent France will be suitable for the United States of Europe. Its leaders might well argue that being a superpower comparable in size and market to the USA, that it is entirely justified in building a nuclear arsenal comparable to its new status. This would mean a massive European nuclear-arms programme, a dramatic and unforgivable escalation. We can only hope that the failure of EMU will leave no money for such ghastly ambitions. Nevertheless, the danger is there and the monumental egos of Europe’s political establishments should not be underestimated.

The European project threatens the integrity of the United Kingdom from without and from within. It must be acknowledged that there always has existed a minority of Scots and Welsh who have not regarded Scottish or Welsh membership of the United Kingdom as a good thing and have actively campaigned in favour of secession. It is the growth in importance for Britain of the European Steel and Coal Community, the European Economic Community and currently the European Union, and if Kohl is allowed his way, the United States of Europe - and the decline of empire, which has greatly assisted the growth of the independence movements in Scotland, and to a much lesser extent in Wales.

As the process of imperial withdrawal accelerated after 1947, so opportunities for personal advancement diminished. British people who in an earlier generation would have looked to the British Empire as a source of employment were forced to stay at home or look closer to home. Some people in Britain believed that with the gradual and irrevocable loss of empire that Britain’s future lay in the political concept of Europe. The decline of conservative party fortunes in Scotland parallels the decline of empire and the growth of the European idea in the British mind.

What drives the Scottish National Party (SNP), for example, towards independence is the belief that they can go to Brussels or Berlin with their begging bowl instead of Westminster. Scots in the Highlands will tell you about the regional development schemes and grants from the European Union and how the nice European Union, unlike the flinty-hearted British government in London, cares for them and helps them. What these subsidy-receiving Scots do not seem to realise is that the disbursements received by the Highlands and Islands come from a central European fund. And why are subsidies necessary in the first place? The answer is that the Highlands and Islands cannot pay their way in the world, or rather, without the subsidies their standard of living would be a lot lower than the rest of the United Kingdom. Without the subsidies, and the taxes raised to pay for them, the Highlands and Islands would experience depopulation on a scale way beyond anything experienced during the clearances.

Britain is a major contributor to that fund and so some of the money that comes to the Highlands and Islands from Brussels is British money being recycled. Recycling other people’s money results in the growth of a bureaucratic class who have a powerful interest in ensuring that the money-allocation schemes continue (as is also the case with the Department of Health and Social Security in Britain). Reallocating money is extremely vulnerable to corruption and cronyism and, naturally, these bureaucrats have to be paid; they have their nice expense accounts, indexed-linked pensions; comfortably-furnished and centrally-heated offices; chauffeur-driven cars and generous allowances, all funded by the taxpayer. These people contribute nothing at all: they are parasites. Europe cannot afford to maintain this parasitic class of bureaucrats in such comfort indefinitely.

The SNP are devoted, so their leaders tell us, to leaving the United Kingdom and becoming an independent nation. Yet at the same time they want Scotland to remain inside the European Union, and eventually the United States of Europe. It is a mystery how a Scotland, which is outside of the United Kingdom but inside a European Union, and one which is committed to ever closer union, can possibly be considered to be an independent nation. Genuine independence can only mean that Scotland will assume the same relationship towards the EU as Norway. Scotland’s continuing membership of the EU, outside of the United Kingdom, is not independence at all: it is dependency on the decisions of bureaucrats and officials in Brussels.

The European Union currently consists of the following: Ireland; UK; Germany; France; Denmark; Portugal; Greece; Spain; Italy; Austria; Sweden; Belgium; Holland; Finland and Luxembourg. The UK is tried and tested. Yet even here there are internal strains, as witnessed by the growth of independence movements. Why, then, do the Scots, Welsh and their English supporters believe that these tensions will be less inside the much larger, more historically-different, more culturally-diverse, more bureaucratically-rigid and cumbersome, more multi-lingual EU than inside the UK? And all these tendencies will get much worse - they are already bad enough - if, as is planned, the former-communist states, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the Baltic states, eventually join the EU. At the back of this queue we find the real basket cases of Bulgaria, Romania and Albania, and maybe even the Russian Federation as well.

Once the euphoria of Scotland’s leaving the United Kingdom (or being ejected by England when the English wake up to the enormity of the devolution fraud) is over, the “independent” Scotland is going to discover some very harsh facts of life. As a small nation Scotland will count for very little in the councils of Europe. France and Germany are going to make all the running in the EU and any objections that the “independent” Scotland might have will be brushed aside by the army of Euro-bureaucrats. The Edinburgh “parliament” will be no more than an expensive body for rubber-stamping decisions and edicts emanating from Berlin or Brussels. In the newly “independent” Scotland, Scots will learn that unconditional obedience and execution of Europe’s edicts are the highest virtues to which they can aspire. Scots will then discover that one of their traditional complaints about Westminster’s being too remote or too distant to understand what Scots really need, is far more applicable to their relationship with the massive, relentless, centralizing tendencies of their European masters. The distance between rulers and ruled is not essentially a question of geography: it is a question of the nature of political power. Those who wield power are always distant from those who are the objects of that power. When that power is unaccountable, life becomes intolerable. Inside the United Kingdom, Scotland has a much greater chance of being heard and listened to than as an “independent” nation inside the European Union/United States of Europe. The English, I suggest, have been just a bit too willing to listen.

Those in Scotland who voted for the establishment of a parliament in Edinburgh, but voted against tax-raising powers, give the game away. What these people want is independence, well almost, but they want someone else - the English - to fund it. At the moment it seems that the vast majority of Englishmen are not aware of the full implications of the devolution fraud. The West Lothian question has not been answered. Scotland continues to benefit disproportionately from central-government subsidies. Wales is to have an assembly, whereas England’s fate is to be divided into 8 regions. Are Englishmen just going to accept this administrative butchery? Will they do nothing to prevent their great and ancient country from being divided into 8 regions so that each one can be played off against the other by the Paris-Berlin Axis? And will there be yet another referendum in twenty years time to decide whether to reconstitute the United Kingdom, when the Scots and Welsh discover that their experiment has gone horribly wrong? Let us hope that at some stage there will be a robust English-nationalist backlash; that Englishmen will wake up to what is happening. Better still, in the aftermath of the devolution referenda, England should consider taking all measures to liberate herself from the whining and ungrateful Celtic fringe, as well as the incubus called Europe, and assert her own independence. And do it quickly. For the time is at hand.

Those of us who have read the fine print, those of us who have learned something from history, are filled with unease, even dread. A Europe consisting of independent states cooperating closely with one another on issues such as, defence, the environment and combatting crime, is a Europe that will endure and prosper. The creation of a state called Europe - the United States of Europe - is all about the ambitions and pride of French and German politicians, with a fair few British collaborators to be sure. True, there are no plans for concentration camps and mass murder in the European Idea but the flood of regulations and the relentless growth of an unaccountable class of bureaucrats bears more than a passing resemblance to the former Soviet empire. Corruption is another important index of comparison with the Soviet system the eradication of which may well prove to be impossible.

The liberal order of men and nation states, the benefits of which Europe has enjoyed since 1945, is an order of human existence and commerce that will not survive the forced collectivization of independent nation-states. And whether we are locked in to the bureaucratic monstrosity of the United States of Europe or no, we shall all pay the price in the Time of Troubles to come.
