Assuming this picture, which appears to show Michell Obama, the wife of US presidential hopeful Barack Obama (top left) in the same grinning group as Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, wife of Louis Farrakhan the Black Supremacist and Supreme Minister of the Nation of Islam (front centre) is genuine, I am sure there is a perfectly innocent explanation.
However, if it is genuine, it will be interesting to see whether the the US media react to it in the same way as we all know they would if an old picture turned up showing Cindy McCain in group shot with a close relative of David Duke.
As I am sure they will if other allegations currently circulating turn out to be true.
Update 7th June 2008
In the interests of fairness and balance 24 hours on, it is beginning to look as if the "great Whitey" rumour, is no more than that.
However, there still remains the question as to what the wife of the possible future leader of the free world was doing in the company of a woman who's husband is the leader of a recognised hate group. That is a legitimate question, if they had both been white, there would have been an outcry.

OMG!
Michelle is pictured with the first black female POW!!! The only thing worse would be pictured with another famous POW, John McCain.
Come on, Sarah. Spreading rumors now? Stick to the facts.
Hi Mark
As I said I am sure there is a totally innocent explanation, however, as I understand it the woman in the centre foreground is the wife of Louis Farrakhan, who is a black supremacist.
If Mrs McCain, or indeed Hillary Clinton were photographed in the company of the wife of a white supremacist, I suspect the press would certainly ask some questions.
As to the "rumour" I have no idea if it is true, and have not claimed it is.
Sarah,
If it is not true, why are you not only spreading it, but also linking to it in your post? Not knowing if it is true is no excuse. You should treat this as a lie designed to be hurtful and hateful.
Yeah just like all the Obama supporters would have if there was a similar rumour doing the rounds about Hillary last month or McCain next month.
Seriously though, I probably would not have mentioned the rumour had it not been for that picture, which I would like to here Mrs Obama explain, as it give the rumour legs.
Given that Obama's association with Jeremiah Wright did little to harm his candidacy, I can't see that association with Farrakhan would have any greater effect. It might reinforce the idea of Obama as a Muslim, but too many Americans distinguish our home-grown, "moderate" Muslims from the "scary kind". The Black Muslims don't really scare anyone. We've all been told that it's wrong to assume that Muslims per se are dangerous.
We have seen already that association with black supremacists is hardly at all damaging for blacks -- nothing like association with white supremacists would be for a white candidate.
This is from an American independent Baptist white Caucasian researcher named Eric Jon Phelps.
He has for many years been a dedicated student of the close links between religion and politics worldwide and their combined threat to the US as a sovereign, independent nation.
His post is entitled The Real Obama. It dates from January 11th 2008.
Who is Barack Obama? Very interesting and something that should be considered in your choice. If you do not ever forward anything else, please forward this to all your contacts...this is very scary to think of what lies ahead of us here in our own United States...better heed this and pray about it and share it. We checked this out on " snopes.com". It is factual. Check for yourself.
Who is Barack Obama?
Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black MUSLIM from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white ATHEIST from Wichita, Kansas. Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a RADICAL Muslim from Indonesia.
When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia. Obama attended a MUSLIM school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a Catholic school.
Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school."
Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that he is not a radical. And that Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education.
Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Obama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta.
Wahabism is the RADICAL teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world. Since it is politically expedient to be a CHRISTIAN when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background. ALSO, keep in mind that when he was sworn into office he DID NOT use the Holy Bible, but instead the Koran.
Barack Hussein Obama will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance nor will he show any reverence for our flag. While others place their hands over their hearts, Obama turns his back to the flag and slouches.
Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential nomination.
The Muslims have said they plan on destroying the US from the inside out, what better way to start than at the highest level - through the President of the United States, one of their own!!!!
Please forward to everyone you know. Would you want this man leading our country?...... NOT ME!!!
I have updated the original post to indicate that the promised tape has not materialised.
I am not suggesting that Obama is a bad man, the result of some Islamic plot, and I am certainly not seeking to be "hurtful and hateful" as Redmountain suggests.
I am simply pointing up the double standards, had a picture emerged, no matter how old, of the wife of white candidate grinning over the shoulder of the wife of a white supremacist, her husband's career would be over.
Thanks Sarah,
I appreciate your fairness and the updating of your post. I am confident it is a hoax. Unfortunately, there are many that want to believe this story so much that they ignore the signs of an outright lie.
To alanorei,
There have been similar posts from 'similar' folks, the 'facts' of that story have been shown to be untrue or exaggerated. I can only conclude that you believe it just because you want it to be true.
Hi again Mark
Alanorei, is a highly thought of commentator here, has submitted a lot of useful and thought provoking information here, and I don't think it is fair to suggest that he does so because he "wants it to be true".
Although some of what Eric Phelps suggests seems a bit far fetched, how can we know that to be the case if nobody is prepared to ask any questions?.
I saw the laughable reports which attempted to reassure the US public that the school Obama attended was no different to anything you might fine in Idaho, if that is what passes for investigative reporting now, Bernstein and Woodward must be cringing with shame.
Despite the Pastor Wright affair and the Rezko trial, Obama must rank as the least scrutinised of presidential candidates, since the days when the press never questioned a gentleman's word.
There are questions to be asked about Obama's background, and they are not being asked. A lot is made of his Kenyan father, who seems to have taken the traditional route of so many black men who get white women pregnant, namely the first bus outa' town. However, his mother was obviously a far greater influence on him and her politics and agenda deserve analysis. Her track record on marriage raises questions, I accept that love love can transcend race, however, at a time when mixed race marriage was widely considered shocking to enter two such unions is suggestive of a political agenda.
However, as far as I am aware these has only been one serious article written about her.
Obama, himself, is a man who could become very important to all of us, yet as I said in a previous post he is also a man of whom we know so little. He has been given a very easy ride up until now, especially when compared to the battering his opponent received, and I have little doubt that was due to his race.
I fear that in a few months time America will be adding a new definition to their multiplicity of definitions of racism, and that is “criticising the President”.
Sarah,
Obama took his oath of office on the Bible, not the Koran. You can call the description of the school what you want, in my opinion, it has been shown to be a gross exaggeration if not an outright lie. There are other problems with it as well.
It was disigned to be a sort of 'chain letter' hoping that enough people would forward it on without doing any fact-checking that eventually it would be taken as TRUTH instead of the total slime attack it really is.
Thanks, Sarah
To my knowledge, EJP is always careful to check out the accuracy of anything he posts.
To Mark, I invite you to refute the report that EJP posted. That somebody somewhere might have said something about somebody else that turned out to be untrue establishes nothing w.r.t. to EJP's report on Obama.
This is another of Eric's posts - the report is from a 3rd party. The quotations are from the man himself, i.e. Obama.
I haven't read the books myself but I guess anyone can check them out.
Again, it is not a question of what I believe or don't believe. The report exists. If the quotes are bogus, or have been taken out of context, then anyone who can prove it please enlighten the rest of us.
(The third quote is clearly about a white individual BO encountered.)
Bold type re the last quote is mine.
This guy wants to be President & Head the US government. Pay close attention to the last comment!!
Below are a few lines from Obama's books his words:
From Dreams of My Father: "I ceased to advertise my
mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to
suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to
whites."
From Dreams of My Father : "I found a solace in
nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity
against my mother's race."
From Dreams of My Father: "There was something about
him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself,
maybe. And white."
From Dreams of My Father: "It remained necessary to
prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to
the black masses, to strike out and name names."
From Dreams of My Father: "I never emulate white men
and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It
was into my father's image, the black man, son of
Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought
in myself, the attributes of Martin [Luther King - real name Michael King, the 'Martin Luther' was an illegal alias] and Malcolm [X]...and Mandela."
From Audacity of Hope: "I will stand with the Muslims
should the political winds shift in an ugly
direction."
What school do you think Obama attended then, Marian? And what do you think it taught him?
Mark
I am not seeking to imply anything about Obama, I am sure he is as nice as everyone wants to believe. However, for a man who aspires to be the leader of the free world, he has, so far had a very easy ride.
I felt the investigation into the Jakarta school was very superficial, the reporter appeared very keen to take everything at face value and believe what they were told. It was not what I would call an in depth investigation.
Voltaires
Obama went to a Muslim school in Jakarta, I believe he also went to a Catholic one, have not been there I have no idea what he was taught.
According to The Washington Post, a senator can take an oath of office on the Qur'an. The individual concerned was Rep. Keith Ellison, D Minn.
So this is really a non-issue.
If Obama did not, it actually hardly matters. His religion is Islam.
This is from another of EJP's posts, again from another researcher.
This is a brief extract.
On February 27th 2008, speaking to Kristof of The New York Times, Barack Hussein Obama said the Muslim call to prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset."
In an interview with Nicholas Kristof, published in The New York Times, Obama recited the Muslim call to prayer, the Adhan, "with a first-class [Arabic] accent."
The opening lines of the Adhan (Azaan) is the Shahada:
"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
"Allah is Supreme! Allah is Supreme!
"I witness that there is no god but Allah
"I witness that there is no god but Allah
"I witness that Muhammad is his prophet! "
That is not a Christian testimony by any stretch of the imagination.
Citing an American ex-pat in SE Asia, the post goes on to say that in Indonesia, where Obama has a large following, Obama is seen "as a crusader for the cause of Islam."
"Some of the rumors and allegations about Obama are clearly not true, yet still spread, often anonymously:
_ A debunked chain e-mail circulating widely on the Internet suggests he is hiding his Islamic roots. It says he was sworn into the Senate on the Quran and turns his back on the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance.
He took his Senate oath with his hand on a family Bible, and he says, "Whenever I'm in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America." In fact, no candidate could survive if he publicly spurned the pledge.
_ Another false report says he attended a Muslim madrassa school as a child in Jakarta. Obama was born in Hawaii and moved to Indonesia when he was 6 to live with his mother and stepfather. He returned to Hawaii when he was 10 to live with his maternal grandparents. Interviews last year by The Associated Press at the elementary school in Jakarta found that it is a public and secular institution and has been open to students of all faiths since before Obama attended in the late 1960s. Said vice principal Akmad Solichin: "Yes, most of our students are Muslim, but there are Christians as well. Everyone's welcome here."
http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/02/28/america/Obama-Muslim-Myth.php
That chain e-mail has been debunked so many times since January, I lost count at 40. I am not sure how you could possibly say it doesn't matter that this e-mail contains an obvious lie about taking the oath of office on the Koran. It is a lie, a smear, a slime attack of the worst sort. Yet there are many that still believe.
Looks like Red Mountain beat me to the punch. Obama's school was "Muslim" only in the sense that Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim country and therefore that was the religion of the majority of parents who sent their kids there. The line of argument, like this thread as a whole, is muck-raking and ludicrous as well as (I suspect) deeply unpleasantly motivated.
As a matter of fact, this thread is about the fact that Michelle Obama was apparently happy to be photographed with the wife of one of the USA's most notorious black supremacists, and has been given a completely free pass by the media in a way that no wife of a white politician could hope for.
With the exception of Mark's "OMG" message a couple of days ago this has hardly been referred to.
The point I am making is that Obama was treated with kid gloves and has not been subjected to anything like the level of scrutiny one would usually expect for someone aspiring to the most powerful job on the planet.
As a result, a far more able candidate was defeated, seemingly for the sake of political correctness.
No, you wrote it sounding all cheerful and mischievous. Except that rather than giggling along, several commenters have had a go at you. Hence you now sound all self righteous and defensive.
I have some other family photos with Obama, again from EJP. The caption of one featuring Obama and Kenya's pro-Muslim Opposition Leader, Raila Odinga, states:
Barack has stated his support for Luo.
Raila Odinga (Opposition Leader in
Kenya who signed a 'Shariah pact'
With Muslims and claims to be Obama's cousin) and is married to Ida Odinga.
They have four children - two sons and two daughters. His oldest son, Fidel, is named after Fidel Castro.
It seems therefore that Obama is OK with Islam, Catholicism (Castro is Jesuit-trained) and Marxism.
Don't know of anything favourable he has said about Protestants yet. (The US has a Protestant-based Constitution.)
To alanorei,
It is interesting that the quotes you gave from the 'call to prayer' from Kristof at the NY Times seem to paint a derogatory picture of Obama. If both posts are read in full, you will see that they are full of praise for Obama.
Interesting how people view things differently. In any cas I am providing links to both those quotes. The first is called "Obama and the Bigots".

Kristof also called Obama's speech on race "the best political speech since John Kennedy talked about his Catholicism in Houston in 1960", link provided below.

Talk about being lost in translation.
Sarah,
My OMG comment was meant to be sarcastic, the "innocent" explanation is that it was a photo taken at a women's luncheon, not a fundraiser for some terror organizattion. I put as much importance on the fact that the first Black woman POW was there as I do Farrakhan's wife. Did you read the list of the others pictured, certainly some good folks there as well. And did you notice Michelle's title at that time? Seems involved in her community and involved in charitable activities.
Mark
I was aware that your OMG comment was sarcastic
I would hate to think you were being deliberately obtuse. I do not give a damn what they were gathered for, or who else was there or how long ago it was.
Had the a photograph come to light of the wife of a white politician clearly comfortable posing with the wife of the leader of a white supremacist group, there would be Hell to pay.
The fact that Michelle Obama and seemingly the US media think that it is acceptable for her to be photographed in the company of Mother Farrakhan is just another example of the double standard from which Obama has benefited all along.
Hillary was not far off the mark with her "Do you need a pillow Barack" jibe.
voltaires said "No, you wrote it sounding all cheerful and mischievous. Except that rather than giggling along, several commenters have had a go at you. Hence you now sound all self righteous and defensive."
Not at all, I am not being defensive or self righteous in any way. I posted it for the reason I have just explained to Mark and I stand by that.
As I said in the original post "it will be interesting to see whether the the US media react to it in the same way as we all know they would if an old picture turned up showing Cindy McCain in group shot with a close relative of David Duke."
Redwood
I have let your last message through however, although I don't mind you attacking what I write, I will not allow you to harass alanorei or anyone else who comments here.
I note that the links to the Institute of Politically Correctness' house journal, otherwise known as the New York Times. The attitudes and views expressed are predictable and there are no circumstances where the NYT would publish anything which was not toe curlingly flattering to a Obama.
As Gore Vidal said about Obama's race speech "It was a good speech, but I've heard a lot of good speeches"
Apologies, by "Redwood" I meant "RedMountain"
RedMountain said...
To alanorei,
It is interesting that the quotes you gave from the 'call to prayer' from Kristof at the NY Times seem to paint a derogatory picture of Obama. If both posts are read in full, you will see that they are full of praise for Obama.
Of course they are. The writer is a journo and his subject is a (Muslim) mulatto.
What do you expect?
That doesn't alter the information about Obama's Islamification.
No problem Sarah,
Redwood is appropriate as well. I rather like it. I don't believe you meant anything derogatory by it and the color is at least correct. Similar to a shade of mulatto with a touch of burnt orange in the mix. The term mulatto was at one time applied to people of a native american and invading european ancestry. I am not sure what the term journo refers to. Possibly a mulatto loving newspaper writer?
voltaires said...
"So are you saying that Obama's wife (and/or him) are anti-semitic?"
I am not sure who you are addressing that question to, but I have not seen anything to suggest that.
That said, Farrakhan is of course notoriously anti-semitic, so I imagine some within the Jewish community might feel uncomfortable with that photograph.
What's your party leader's stance on Jews, Sarah?
voltaires said...
"What's your party leader's stance on Jews, Sarah?"
I don't have a party leader, I am not a member of the BNP, I voted for them for the first time ever last month.
However, if you mean Nick Griffin, I am not aware that he has one, I certainly do not.
