In testimony at the War Crimes trial of one time Liberian leader Charles Taylor today, supermodel Naomi Campbell admitted receiving a gift of so called "blood diamonds" at a gathering hosted by Nelson Mandela in 1997.Asked what had happened to the diamonds, Campbell claimed that she had donated them to a charitable fund set up by the then President Mandela. Campbell's testimony was contradicted by the administrators of the Mandela Children's fund, who claimed they had never received the diamonds.
Am I alone in suspecting that not only will the true fate of the diamonds never be fully revealed, it will also never be seriously investigated.
